A welcoming place to know, love and serve God.
Fr. Rick’s Reflection
I’m sure many of you have put together gifts for your kids, with the words on the box “Some assembly required” . I don’t know about you, but I don’t do assembly well. I inevitably find two or three lonely left over parts on the carpet, like (most recently) a bolt or some plastic screws, that didn’t make it on the item. Poor little spare parts, they never made it on the team. I figured these useless parts were there because someone at the factory slipped up and put them in the box. This is not how God works! He does not make useless parts. You are not a factory slip up. You have a purpose in God’s church. You are needed in order for the church to function. Firstly, you are called to know God. Secondly, you are invited to receive God’s love and mercy and hope and grace. Thirdly, according to the bible, you are called to share, to distribute God’s goodness to others. I hope you consider your local church as your distribution center. Through the giving of your time, your unique abilities (and we all have them) and your financial support, you can sponsor the charity or mission of your passion. Feel passionate about supplying a nutritious lunch for all school kids? Let’s do it. Want to help young mothers be better moms? Let’s do it. Want to cheer up some forgotten people in a nursing home? Teach an art class? Sponsor a third world child? Support the humane society? Raise “Green” awareness? Start a book club or support group? Let’s do it. The church is where you can follow your passions and “let your life speak!” Your church provides many opportunities to share and show people God. You are not a spare part. You are needed.
